About Cool Cats Rescue Inc.
Saving stray cats since 2016.
How it all began: with one cat.
Our story began during the winter months of 2016, when three young people took a break from working on their boat in Loxahatchee, FL to go get ice cream at a nearby shopping plaza. Upon so doing, the trio were greeted at the ice cream shop by a gregarious and sociable cat, who wouldn't leave them alone. The three people petted the cat who soon began to follow them—it was as if the inevitable adoption process had been set into motion! Finally leaving, the friendly adult cat left a lasting impression.
Over the next few months, the cat was encountered in and around the plaza numerous times by one of the trio's members, Drew Maglio. Catching wind of the curious and friendly fellow was Drew's dad and Cool Cats Rescue Inc. founder, Brian—who began to feed and brush the cat with regularity until one day, when he discerned visible evidence of a scuffle with another animal was apparent. At this revelation, Brian concocted a plan to bring the cat home for care which was soon done. Over the coming weeks and months, the cat was treated and cared for—quickly becoming an indispensable member of the family and a great companion! Pepé, as the cat would come to be called—owing to his white and black coat and compulsively incessant bathing habits—is best described as a gentle giant: he is a cat with incredible natural prowess and power, but one whom demonstrates (towards people and other animals) great kind docility and warmth.

Pepé
After the adoption of Pepé, Brian lay dormant for a few years—however the seed was planted: for it was clear to him, that throughout South Florida (and particularly Palm Beach County), there was a great hoard of stray cats who needed food, care, and shelter—and Brian was particularly well-suited to caring for them; from the humble beginnings of one cat, a herculean altruistic effort soon commenced!
Since 2020, Brian has been caring for hundreds of stray cats each night on the streets and behind the shopping plazas of northern Palm Beach County, providing food and care to cats in need, assistance with spaying and neutering efforts, and even helps capture and transport sick and injured cats to veterinarian clinics for medical care; in addition, Brian has facilitated the adoption of many cats into doting homes.
Since 2022, Brian has witnessed the disappearance of many of the cats which he feeds; he has also frequently run into illegal trappers—equipped with cages and other trapping devices—operating under the cover of night. These factors, when combined, seem to indicate an organized effort to harvest sweet, innocent and loving stray cats for the purpose of training and feeding illegally-kept (and abused) dogfighting dogs throughout the state and greater region. Part of Brian's impetus for forming Cool Cats was therefore, to resist the illegal capture of the animals that he cares for.
In 2024, hoping to increase awareness about the plight of stray cats in Palm Beach County—as well as garner greater support from the wider community in the form of donations and volunteers—Cool Cats Rescue Inc. was formally established as a charitable 501(c)(3) non-profit organization so that our efforts may be not only continued, but expanded to have a greater reach: for it is our belief that with community support and outreach, we can not only make a greater impact in the lives of the animals we care for, but also those who such animals may benefit as companions.
